Central Lutheran Church offers many activites to involve
the entire family in the joy of life in our Lord Jesus Christ:
The CLCW's statement of purpose reads:
As a community of women
created in the image of God.
called to discipleship in Jesus Christ,
and empowered by the Holy Spirit,
We commit ourselves to:
grow in faith,
affirm our gifts,
support one another in our callings
and promote healing and wholeness in
the church, the society and the world.
Every woman of Central is encouraged to take an active part in this organization through the
Elizabeth Circle, Shalom Circle, Dorcas Circle, or Lydia Circle.
Via De Cristo, the Lutheran expression of
Cursillo, is a structured method for renewing Christian life. It
is a three-day weekend retreat designed to strengthen individual
Christians, and through them, their families, congregations and
environment of daily life, work, and play. It is not to be
confused with a "charismatic movement" nor does it
actively promote a "conversion experience." Via De
Cristo is a Lutheran, international lay movement, involving laity
and clergy in the renewal of the church.
A one-week summer camp experience is offered each
year as part of the Confirmation Program. Central Lutheran Church
subsidizes the camp fees for each student the first year. LORMS
(Lutheran Outdoor and Retreat Ministry of the Southwest)
administers camp facilities in North Texas, Central Texas, and
the Hill Country.
The Youth Group is a structured opportunity for
young Christians to gather for fun, fellowship, learning and
service. Its purpose is to provide support and nurture for the
faith and life of our youth. The youth are a vital part of this
congregation and of Christ's Church on earth.
The Youth Group is open to all youth of the
congregation from grades 4 to 12. Different age groups meet on
different Sunday evenings each month during the year.
Additionally, "mystery" night gatherings are held for
all ages each Wednesday evening during the summer. Occassional
special trips are planned that take the youth outside the local
area.
Our ministry to bereaved families
involves the entire congregation. Several meals are prepared and delivered by
members to the home.
P.O.L.O. (Parents of Little Ones) is for parents
of little ones, and anyone who just likes acting like a kid. This
group is coordinated by the little one's parents. It holds field trips and
activities for children through kindergarten age. A sign-up sheet
is located on the POLO bulletin board next to the nursery.
Moms and children (infants thru preschoolers) meet the 2nd & 4th
Fridays of each month at 10:30 am in the church parlor.
Bring whatever snacks, drinks, and favorite toys/books
the kiddos would like to have/share during that
time. Very informal fun time just to visit and play.
The male version of Little Lambs Playgroup,
gives moms some free time and introduces the guys
to the world of "Mine, mine!" and "Let's share".
This is a great opportunity for Dads to spend some special time
with their pre-school age children and their buddies. They meet
bi-monthly for special gatherings and events.
Need some couple time? Parents of pre-school and
school-age children meet for fun and fellowship while the teenaged youth
babysit. Events and outings are scheduled at various times and places
throughout the year.
Wear your favorite p.j.'s, bring your pillows and teddy bears and
get ready to snuggle up for some super stories and a bedtime snack. Children
ages third grade and younger are invited to a bi-monthly bedtime storytime on
the third Friday of the scheduled month at 7:00 p.m. in the parish hall.
Family Faith Night is a monthly gathering of folks in
every age range to spend an evening of fellowship with their church family.
We gather the second Wednesday of every month in the parish hall at 6:00 p.m.
for dinner, entertainment, a faith lesson and "family" discussion.
This successful program for seniors ranges from
interesting day trips to nearby cities to a variety of cultural
events in Dallas.
Artreach provides the group with complimentary
tickets throughout the year to dance, theater, and art events.
Members and their friends enjoy this special fellowship.
Several fellowship dinners are planned throughout
the year. Pot luck suppers are enthusiastically received and
offer our members an opportunity to become better acquainted.
Many times there is entertainment provided. These are great
"mixers," and we have a chance to discover the many
talents of our members. In the summer, the men sponsor a hot dog
and hamburger picnic.
The Brotherhood/Men's Club is a loose-knit
organization of the men of the church, who get together
periodically throughout the year to sponsor activities, such as
the Sort-of-Annual Chili Cookoff, church picnics, and dinners,
and the children's Christmas program.
Food! Fun! Fellowship! This is the theme of the
Friendship Club. Single and married adults of the church hold
informal gatherings in the home of volunteer hosts, and other
members serve as co-hosts. Everyone brings hors d'oeuvres or
desserts.
Monthly breakfast meetings held at 7:30 a.m. at local restaurants,
inviting speakers who enlighten the group and their guests on various subjects.
We have two slow-pitch softball teams:
The Coed Softball Team plays on Thursday evenings
at Northway Christian Church. There are Spring and Fall leagues.
The Men's Over 35 Team plays on Friday evenings
from April through June at Cotillion Park, Barnes Bridge and
Ferguson Road in East Dallas.
Visit Dallas Church Softball Association (DCSA) for league information.
Two golf tournaments are held annually, one in the spring and
another in late summer or fall. Open to Central members and their
friends, the tournaments are played on various metroplex courses.
A prayer group consisting of members who request to be on the
prayer chain. This group offers prayer support for members and friends in
need. Illness, death, birth, celebrations and sorrows are shared in prayer.
Four teams (men, women, and youth) who weekly maintain and beautify the
church grounds.
